my first and most cynical reaction to reading your posting would be to wonder if the serviceman who told you that (if a serviceman told you that) would have then informed you that there is no warranty available for the pump repair because it amounted to owner abuse...if Aunt Ethel made the observation, she probably didn't know from whence she spoke...
